Missing Sydney Bushwalker Lily Hooper Found Dead

Search teams discovered the body of 18-year-old Lily Hooper in Nattai National Park on Thursday, concluding an eight-day search for the missing hiker.
Hooper disappeared on August 12 after leaving her home in Oakdale for a planned hike, triggering a massive multi-agency operation involving 260 State Emergency Service members and the Australian Defence Force.
Emergency services found the body about 11:30 a.m. Thursday near the Bonnum Pic Walking Trail in dense terrain far from marked paths, NSW Police Force Assistant Commissioner Jo Cassar confirmed.
NSW Premier Chris Minns initially told a budget hearing Hooper was alive before correcting the report after police confirmed a temporary communication breakdown led to incorrect information reaching her family.
Detectives from the Hume Police District are assisting with a coronial investigation to determine the cause of death, while emergency crews work to retrieve the body from the isolated terrain.
