Kendall Qualls Wins GOP Endorsement for Governor
Qualls won 60.4% on the final ballot after electronic voting problems delayed the Minnesota Republican Party convention, officials said.
On Saturday, the Minnesota Republican Party State Convention in Duluth endorsed businessman and Army veteran Kendall Qualls for governor after he surpassed the 60% threshold on the 10th ballot.
Nearly 1,800 delegates endured a 10-hour event marred by anomalies with electronic voting devices that forced organizers to manage multiple delays inside the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
Founder and CEO of MyPillow Mike Lindell received 21.4% of the vote but was eliminated after the fourth ballot, though he vowed to contest the August primary without the party's endorsement.
Following his victory, Qualls called for a united Republican Party to defeat the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, stating, "Minnesota is no longer yours," while House Speaker Lisa Demuth conceded the race.
With the August 11 primary approaching, Republicans aim to reverse 20 years of statewide defeat, as Qualls pitched himself as an outsider seeking the first statewide office win since 2006.
