President Prabowo Subianto announced yesterday that the small atolls will pass from northern Sumatra to Aceh, putting an end to a long dispute. The issue concerns the rich gas fields that have been discovered off the islands, admitted also the governor of the conservative region. Prabowo seeks a greater consensus in the region.
JK said the polemic over the four Aceh islands was the first case after 20 years.
President Prabowo Subianto has decided that the four islands of Aceh Singkil that were previously claimed as part of North Sumatra will remain the property of Aceh.
Former Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK) reminded that the polemic over the ownership dispute over four islands involving Aceh Province and North Sumatra (Sumut) should be a lesson.
