Minimum wage hikes set to begin across five provinces
The increases range from 25 to 40 cents an hour as provinces respond to rising living costs and inflation pressures, officials said.
Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan are raising minimum wages this year, with increases ranging between 25 and 40 cents per hour across the five provinces.
Governments tied these increases to the rising cost of living across the country. The adjustments reflect ongoing economic pressures facing workers and employers in the region.
Ontario moves to $17.95 an hour, while Prince Edward Island reaches $17.30 and Nova Scotia $17. Manitoba's rate climbs to $16.40 and Saskatchewan's to $15.70.
Nunavut leads Canada at just over $20 an hour after lifting its minimum wage in early September. This marks the highest rate across the country.
Alberta maintains Canada's lowest minimum wage at $15 an hour and has not increased its rate since 2019. The province remains the only jurisdiction that has not raised wages this year.
