Military responds swiftly to devastating Venezuelan earthquakes
The U.S. is deploying civilian and military resources to Venezuela after two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 struck the country, causing many building collapses and a death toll exceeding 900.
The U.S. Southern Command is leading relief operations in Venezuela for the Department of War and the State Department.
Two U.S. naval ships, USS Fort Lauderdale and USS Billings, have been redirected to waters near Venezuela to assist with rescue and aid operations.
Search and rescue teams sent to Venezuela include firefighters, doctors, structural engineers, and specially trained dogs.
The Brazilian government also provides for the installation of a field hospital, which will have medical personnel, medicines and sanitary supplies. 100 solar water purifiers are among the supplies sent.
