Militant attack on Pakistani police station kills at least 7 officers and wounds 13
- Late on Friday night, terrorists rammed an explosives-laden truck into the Ratta Kulachi Police Training School gate in Dera Ismail Khan district, killing seven police personnel and six militants after hours of fighting.
- Attackers wearing various uniforms stormed the compound and opened indiscriminate fire after the truck blast, using heavy weapons to try to force entry; Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan initially claimed responsibility but later denied involvement.
- The operation involved SSG commandos, Al-Burq Force and Elite Force and was supervised on-site by DPO Dera Ismail Khan Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed and RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar, while around 200 trainees, instructors and staff were evacuated and 13 injured police shifted to hospitals.
- Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed the area is cleared and search operations continue, praising RPO Syed Ashfaq Anwar and DPO Sahibzada Sajjad Ahmed while rewarding officers who returned fire.
- The assault is the latest violence to rock an area long described as a base for armed groups; this year, until Sept. 15, security forces conducted over 10,000 operations killing 970 militants.
