U.S. to Back Argentina’s First LNG Export Project With $6 Billion Loan

- On Wednesday, the U.S. Export-Import Bank issued a non-binding term sheet offering up to $6 billion to support Argentina's $51 billion Argentina LNG project led by state-run energy firm YPF.
- YPF, Italy's Eni SpA, and Emirati energy firm XRG are developing the project to monetize Vaca Muerta's shale gas resources, seeking $24 billion from banks to construct pipelines and processing facilities.
- The project targets producing 12 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually, with U.S. firm Pumpco, a MasTec, Inc. subsidiary, securing a contract worth more than $1 billion for the export pipeline system.
- Partners applied last month to join Argentina's Large Investment Incentive Regime to support development, as European and Asian buyers seek to diversify energy supplies away from the Middle East amid the war in Iran.
- With a projected debut in 2030, partners are targeting a final investment decision by the end of 2026 as Argentinian President Javier Milei continues seeking foreign investment in infrastructure.
