FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY, TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA, JUL 23 – Florida State hired Gus Malzahn to overhaul an offense that ranked near the bottom nationally, aiming to recover from a last-place finish in the ACC after winning the 2023 title.
- On Wednesday at ACC Media Days, Mike Norvell praised Gus Malzahn’s hire, noting his national championship win as offensive coordinator, and highlighting its significance for Florida State’s season.
- Last year, Florida State's offense ranked near the bottom with 270.3 yards and 15.4 points per game, as Norvell said Malzahn's championship pedigree includes leading Auburn to a 2010 national title with Cam Newton.
- Gus Malzahn achieved a 14-0 BCS national championship in 2010 with Cam Newton, secured an SEC title in 2013, and compiled a 68-36 record at Auburn and 29-24 at UCF.
- Under the new system, Gus Malzahn will call plays and dial up the offense in Tallahassee, setting up the season opener against Alabama on August 30.
