Mike Flanagan to helm adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist
Director Mike Flanagan will write and helm a new film adaptation of Stephen King’s novella The Mist, following two prior adaptations in 2007 and 2017.
- According to Deadline, Mike Flanagan, director and writer, will write and adapt a new film version of Stephen King's 1980 novella The Mist.
- Flanagan has a long-standing creative partnership with Stephen King, having directed feature adaptations of Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck, and is working on the Carrie miniseries and The Dark Tower TV adaptation.
- Previously adapted for screen, the story has seen a 2007 film by Frank Darabont, a filmmaker, and a 2017 Spike TV series starring Morgan Spector and Alyssa Sutherland.
- Now that the 2007 film streams free on The Roku Channel, its praised changes and King’s approval keep The Mist in public view as Flanagan’s adaptation nears.
- Given past endings that polarized audiences, Flanagan's reputation suggests he may reshape the story, which earlier versions altered by involving the protagonist killing survivors before surrendering to the mist.
