Mickelson's lawyer says he resigned from country club after misconduct allegations
A lawyer said Mickelson resigned after a club investigation into allegations that he made inappropriate physical contact with a female employee.
Phil Mickelson resigned from The Farms Country Club near San Diego following allegations of inappropriate contact with a female employee, a lawyer for the golfer confirmed.
Management asked Mickelson to leave the course during his round last week after a staff member reported he approached her in the clubhouse and made nonconsensual physical contact.
The club conducted an independent investigation into the incident, while a spokesperson for the golfer stated in response to Golf Digest that "any misunderstanding has been cleared up."
Mickelson has withdrawn from the Masters and PGA Championship this year, citing family health matters, and is no longer eligible to compete in the U.S. Open this weekend.
The golfer became the oldest major champion in 2021, but this incident follows a turbulent period that included helping launch Saudi-funded LIV Golf and losing sponsorships in 2022.
