Samantha Rae Booth, known to the family for two years, faces first-degree murder and child abuse charges after stabbing David Ong in front of a toddler, police said.
- On Oct. 24, Samantha Rae Booth was charged with first-degree murder and related felonies after an attack at a Royal Oak, Michigan home killed David Ong, 83, grandfather, and injured others on the 4300 block of Sheridan.
- The child's mother, who was out of town, could not reach Booth and asked David Ong, 83, to check on his 2-year-old granddaughter at the 4300 block of Sheridan around 7:50 p.m. on October 24.
- Armed with a screwdriver, Booth allegedly attacked the uncle and child who fled to a neighbor's home; she dropped the weapon, stripped naked, and was arrested after a brief foot chase with suspected drugs found in her purse.
- Booth was arraigned via video on October 28, refused to appear on camera, was denied bond, and remains held at Oakland County Jail with a court date set for Nov. 7.
- Ong, who founded Acquest Realty Advisors and led it for 45 years, will be honored at a funeral Mass on Nov. 1, while investigators say unanswered questions remain about motive and suspected drugs.
