Ford, JPMorgan Chase and Michigan Establish $3B Manufacturing Initiative
Ford and JPMorgan Chase each pledged up to $1 billion as the initiative links manufacturers with suppliers, financing and workforce support.
- On Saturday, Ford Motor Co., JPMorgan Chase, and the state of Michigan launched Michigan LIFT, a $3 billion public-private partnership designed to address manufacturing supply-chain challenges and accelerate industrial scaling.
- The initiative grew from the Michigan Resiliency Summit, where leaders identified hurdles preventing companies from reaching production scale; it utilizes an "open call" system to connect industrial buyers with innovative suppliers.
- Ford and JPMorganChase each pledged up to $1 billion to advance workforce development and finance critical industries, while the partners also donated $550,000 to Focus: HOPE, a Detroit nonprofit offering industrial manufacturing training.
- Michigan Central and Newlab provide physical testing infrastructure across the 30-acre innovation district to help firms transition from prototype to production, with the platform targeting five sectors including robotics, advanced energy, and critical minerals.
- Founding participants aim to attract industrial buyers representing over $1 billion in annual demand by 2036, positioning Michigan LIFT as a proving ground that may inform similar efforts in other communities nationwide.
