Michigan Voter Guide: Everything you need to know ahead of the 2026 election
Michigan voters can register through Election Day, and absentee ballots are available without an excuse under rules that also require nine days of early voting.
- Michigan's General Election is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3, with voters able to register in person or online up to 8 p.m. on Election Day at their city or township clerk's office.
- Registration is open until 14 days before an election; within that window, residents must show proof of residency at their local office to register and vote in person.
- Absentee ballot requests are accepted by mail until 5 p.m. the Friday before the election, while in-person requests are accepted until 4 p.m. the Monday prior to the election.
- Early, in-person voting begins Saturday, Oct. 24, running through Sunday, Nov. 1, with voters able to check their assigned sites up to 60 days before the election online.
- On Election Day, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and voters without valid ID can still cast a ballot by signing an affidavit at the polling location.
