U of M President Announces Independent Review Following Sherrone Moore's Arrest, Firing
University of Michigan hired Jenner & Block to assess athletics culture after coach Moore's firing amid criminal charges and ongoing misconduct probes.
- On Dec. 10, the University of Michigan fired Sherrone Moore for an inappropriate relationship and expanded Jenner & Block's assignment to review athletics culture and procedures.
- After new information emerged, the staffer allegedly provided the 'credible evidence' Michigan cited in firing Moore, while an earlier internal investigation reportedly uncovered nothing.
- Shortly after his firing, Moore was arrested for allegedly forcing entry into the staffer's home, taken to St. Joseph Mercy for a mental health evaluation, and released on a $25,000 bond, with GPS monitoring and no-contact conditions.
- To support the probe, Michigan plans to strengthen the Office of Ethics, Integrity and Compliance, and Grasso emphasized `We will take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that conduct like this does not happen again`.
- Michigan warned the probe could reveal further misconduct leading to more terminations, with Biff Poggi serving as interim head coach for the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31 while Warde Manuel has not addressed the coaching search.
