Michael J. Fox among Canadian Emmy nominees after six-year acting break
Fox’s first Emmy nomination since 2016 recognizes a guest role written for him by Bill Lawrence after his 2020 acting retirement.
On Wednesday, Actor Michael J. Fox earned his 18th career Emmy nomination for his guest-starring role in season three of the Apple TV series Shrinking.
Five years after announcing his "second retirement" in his 2020 memoir, No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality, Fox returned to acting for Shrinking due to Parkinson's disease.
On Shrinking, Fox portrays Gerry, a patient with Parkinson's who befriends Paul Rhoades, played by Harrison Ford, reuniting the actor with series co-creator Bill Lawrence.
Fox competes in the category against Brett Goldstein, Hamish Linklater, Christopher McDonald, and Connor Storrie, marking his first Emmy nomination since his role on The Good Wife in 2016.
The 78th annual Emmys will air live on NBC and Peacock on September 14, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, with other Canadian nominees including R. Scott Gemmill, Brittany Allen, and Martin Short.
