Michael Healy-Rae Released From Hospital After Assault
He was taken to hospital after being stopped in traffic and assaulted, with gardaí and ambulance crews responding at the scene.
On Wednesday, Independent Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae was assaulted in Dublin and transported to University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
A lone male approached Healy-Rae's car window and punched him while stopped in traffic near the Combe Hospital on Cork Street.
Brother Danny Healy-Rae confirmed the incident, stating, "someone hit him in the window," and added it is "only natural" to worry.
Taoiseach Simon Harris condemned the assault, stating, "There is absolutely no place for violence or intimidation in our democracy." Colleagues Mattie McGrath and Paul Gogarty also sent well wishes.
Gardaí are investigating the assault and appealing for witnesses to contact Kevin Street Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line; no arrests have been made.
