Patriarch Kirill, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, has temporarily suspended his own decree transferring Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) to Brazil, the Moscow Patriarchate said on its website.
The metropolitan's request was to be able to care for his elderly mother at home.
Metropolitan Hilarion, who returned to Russia this year after being detained in the Czech Republic on suspicion of drug trafficking, will not be sent to Brazil but will serve in Russia's Moscow region, the state news agency TASS reported on Wednesday, citing the Russian Orthodox Church. Patriarch Kirill made the decision because Hilarion needs to take care of his elderly mother.
The Patriarch Cyrille has designated the place of service of the Mythorpolitan Ilarion, the Pastropigical Women's Monastery of Jerusalem, as reported by the Mitropolitan himself in his Telegram Channel.
