2 Metra Passengers Hurt when UP-North Line Train Hits Semi Truck in Wilmette
Two passengers suffered minor injuries as Metra halted Union Pacific North service and canceled at least two trains while investigators examined the crash.
On Thursday, Metra Union Pacific North train 337 struck a flatbed trailer carrying a generator at the Linden Avenue and Green Bay Road crossing in Wilmette, halting service on the line.
Wilmette Fire Chief Brian Lambel reported two passengers sustained "minor injuries" and were transported to Endeavor Health's Evanston Hospital, while the truck driver escaped uninjured.
Following the crash, Metra canceled UP-N trains 345, 355, 357, 361, 354, 360, 362, and 368, warning commuters of "extensive" delays throughout Thursday evening.
The Chicago Transit Authority honored Metra tickets on Brown, Red, and Purple Line trains to assist displaced commuters, while Metra advised passengers to seek alternate transportation.
Service on the Union Pacific North line returned to normal schedules by Thursday evening, though authorities are continuing to investigate the crash's cause in Wilmette.
