The General Directorate of Meteorology announced that heavy rain and thunderstorms will begin in the Marmara Region tomorrow morning, and will be strong in some areas. The warning, issued for 7 provinces including Istanbul, urged caution against adverse effects such as floods, waterlogging, lightning strikes, and disruptions to transportation.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Management Directorate (AKOM) expects strong and locally very strong torrential rain across Istanbul. Cool air coming from the Balkans will affect the city, causing temperatures to drop by 6-8 degrees.
AKOM announced that 20 to 40 kilograms of rainfall per square meter is expected in Istanbul today, both around the Bosphorus on the European side and across the Anatolian side, and 60 to 100 kilograms tomorrow. Temperatures are expected to drop to 16 degrees Celsius, winds will reach 30 to 60 kilometers per hour, and residents are advised to take precautions.
The Directorate General of Meteorology has warned citizens against thunderstorms expected to be effective across the country. Local heavy rainfall is expected in the south and east of Marmara and around Tekirdağ, Düzce, Zonguldak and Bartın, while the wind speed is expected to reach 60 kilometers per hour in the southwest of Marmara, the North Aegean and Eastern Anatolia.
