Meta Signs Three Nuclear Power Deals to Help Support Its AI Data Centers
Meta signed long-term agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo to secure 6.6 gigawatts of nuclear power for AI data centers, aiming for delivery by 2035.
- On Jan. 9, 2026, Meta Platforms announced agreements with TerraPower, Oklo and Vistra to secure nuclear power for its Prometheus AI data center in New Albany, Ohio.
- Following prior procurement moves last year, Meta expanded its nuclear strategy to secure long-term, low-carbon power supporting AI data centers and jobs, after seeking 1 to 4 gigawatts in 2024 and a 20-year Constellation Energy deal.
- The deals together commit to supporting up to 6.6 gigawatts by 2035, including more than 2.1 gigawatts from Vistra's Ohio and Pennsylvania plants and funding for Oklo's 1.2 GW Pike County campus and TerraPower's Natrium units.
- The deals immediately underpin large uprates and capacity increases, including 2,176 MW of operating generation plus 433 MW of increases, with Vistra Energy and Oklo stocks rising in premarket trading, supporting local jobs and tax bases.
- Joel Kaplan framed the deals as historic corporate nuclear procurement, saying Meta will be one of the most significant corporate purchasers of nuclear energy, though U.S. small modular reactors are not yet in commercial operation.
