Meta rolls out new AI tools to detect ads that secretly lead to child sexual abuse material
On Wednesday, Meta deployed new AI tools to detect child sexual exploitation on Facebook and Instagram in India, countering sophisticated predator tactics used to bypass existing ad review systems.
Predators have increasingly used advertisements to evade detection by creating seemingly harmless ads that direct users to CSAM, prompting these new detection measures.
Between January and June 2026, Meta actioned 5.3 million pieces of child sexual exploitation content in India, with more than 98 per cent detected proactively; globally, the company actioned 33.2 million pieces.
Meta introduced large language model-based detection to identify 'signposting' in advertisements, alongside AI-driven sweeps and red-teaming agents, allowing it to block violating destinations and take action against responsible accounts.
Building on collaboration with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children , the company now reports child safety cases directly to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal managed by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre. "Keeping young people safe," Meta said.
