Met Office Maps Show Rain Hitting Yorkshire as 51 Counties Set for Wet Weather
The rain band is expected to reach London by 5pm as temperatures ease and showers spread across much of the UK.
The Met Office confirmed on Friday, May 29, 2026, that Britain's record-breaking heatwave is breaking, with temperatures cooling and widespread rain forecast across the UK.
Tuesday's record temperatures of 35.1C at Kew Gardens prompted a surge in NHS heatstroke advice page visits, with 20,092 hits recorded on bank holiday Monday compared to 488 the previous week.
Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer stated, "We're now starting to see this spell of very hot weather break down," as Met Office maps indicate rainfall will affect 51 counties across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
Rain is expected to sweep across the UK starting Monday, June 1, bringing unsettled conditions and temperatures closer to average as cooler weather becomes established across most regions.
The Met Office noted "tentative" signs that hotter conditions could return from mid-June onwards, though meteorologist Aidan McGivern cautioned the long-range forecast remains subject to change.
