Met Office warns snow and wind is forecast for Easter as new storm named
Yellow wind warnings cover much of the UK as forecasters expect transport delays, power cuts and gusts of up to 90mph in western Scotland.
- On Saturday, the Met Office announced Storm Dave will bring snow, rain, and winds of up to 80mph across Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and northern England over the Easter weekend.
- Met Office deputy chief forecaster Tom Crabtree said the storm stems from a 'rapidly deepening area of low pressure' originating in the Atlantic, strengthening the jet stream toward the northwest.
- Yellow weather warnings for snow and wind are effective from 3pm on Saturday until 6am on Sunday, with 'blizzard conditions' forecast to accumulate up to 20cm of snow on roads above 200m in northern Scotland.
- Travel agencies told Scotland's drivers not to 'underestimate' Storm Dave's severity, while Alex Price, product manager at an outdoor equipment company, warned gusts above 40-50mph can lift unsecured trampolines.
- Conditions should gradually ease on Easter Sunday as the storm clears toward the North Sea, with the Met Office anticipating a mostly dry Monday and some sunny spells despite continued breezes in southern regions.
