30-Hour Heavy Rain Warning for Essex as Heatwave Comes to Abrupt End
The Met Office said 34 English counties face severe downpours as a weak cold front ends the UK’s record heat.
On Monday, June 1, 2026, the Met Office warned of heavy rain sweeping across the UK, with 34 counties braced for a 30-hour downpour beginning at 1 p.m.
This shift marks an abrupt end to the record-breaking heatwave, which saw temperatures reach 35.1C in Kew Gardens, London, earlier last week on Tuesday.
Heavy rainfall will initially strike Wales before advancing into England, where meteorologists expect downpours of up to 16mm per hour in some areas.
While the weather may bring welcome relief for farmers and gardeners after recent dry conditions, the Met Office also warns of potential thunderstorms across the week.
Temperatures are expected to drop to the late teens and early 20s, closer to the seasonal average, as the country transitions into an unsettled meteorological summer.
