Status Yellow rain warning issued for six counties

Met Éireann warns of 25-50mm rain on saturated ground in six eastern counties, risking localized and river flooding with travel disruptions, amid ongoing Storm Chandra cleanup.

  • Met Éireann issued a 24-hour yellow rain warning affecting Carlow, Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford starting at midnight tonight. The warning may cause local flooding and difficult travel.
  • Met Éireann warned that further heavy rain on already saturated ground and high river levels after Storm Chandra may trigger localised and river flooding, with strong southeasterly winds Thursday night into Friday.
  • Forecasters say many areas could see 10-25 mm with hill totals much higher, with 40-50 mm on the Wicklow Mountains and Blackstairs and 25-35 mm in low-lying areas.
  • Keith Leonard warned local motorists not to use roads marked as closed, saying `From a public safety perspective, we had a number of people who were rescued from cars yesterday.`
  • Opposition figures and experts challenged the minister's comments as James Browne, Minister for Housing, said Met Éireann will face an Oireachtas committee and urged greater use of 'judgement calls'.
