Vahap Seçer, the head of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey and the Mayor of Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, has been detained. It has been learned that a search was conducted at Seçer's home. In addition to Seçer, it was stated that Abdullah Özyiğit, the Mayor of Yenişehir Municipality, and Ahmet Serkan Tuncer, the Mayor of Mezitli Municipality, were also detained.
In an operation targeting the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, Yenişehir Municipality, and Mezitli Municipality, 59 people, including the mayors, were taken into custody.
A massive operation was launched this morning as part of a wide-ranging investigation into corruption and irregularities conducted by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. 59 suspects, including Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer and the mayors of Yenişehir and Mezitli districts, were taken into custody. It was reported that the total public loss incurred by the municipalities exceeded 1.4 billion Turkish Lira.
