Mercedes-AMG gives us a ride in its next high-performance EV
GERMANY, JUL 21 – The new AMG-EA platform powers the electric GT 4-Door with 1,340 horsepower and synthetic V-8 sounds to engage drivers and target high-performance EV enthusiasts.
- In Germany, Mercedes-AMG has prototypes of its next-generation AMG GT 4-Door on roads and tracks, built on the new AMG-EA platform with 1,340 horsepower.
- AMG CEO Michael Schiebe said, `We set up shop outside the offices and had people drive by in various cars to find the right engine and exhaust notes,` while emphasizing the challenge to entice hardcore V-8 fans.
- Performance figures include a 225 mph top speed and aspirations to set track records, and the car will automatically upshift at redline.
- Amid testing, AMG CEO Michael Schiebe said `Sound is emotional,`, while Markus Schaefer, Mercedes-Benz Group CTO, highlighted test drives with big smiles from V-8 fans.
- Following its development phase, the AMG GT 4-Door is slated for a global rollout in 2026, with production versions hitting showrooms next year.
