Police arrest men over alleged modern day slavery
The arrests followed a warrant at a business premises and a wider operation that also led to three immigration-related arrests, police said.
- On Wednesday, July 29, Dorset Police executed a warrant at a Gillingham business premises, arresting a 22-year-old man from Buckinghamshire and a 20-year-old man from Sussex on suspicion of modern slavery and money laundering.
- Operation Alpena, an ongoing investigation involving the North Dorset Neighbourhood Policing Team, the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit, HM Revenue and Customs, and Immigration Enforcement, coordinated the enforcement action to combat exploitation.
- Immigration Enforcement led the arrest of three additional men for immigration offences during the operation, while partner agencies safeguarded a number of vulnerable individuals identified at the premises.
- Separately on the same day, Lancashire Police stopped a Nissan Juke on Garstang Road in Preston, discovering approximately £14,000 in cash and arresting two men on suspicion of money laundering.
- Police Constable Bradley Gibbs of the North Dorset Neighbourhood Policing Team urged the public to report further information via Dorset Police at 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
