MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY, JUL 24 – Manhattan judge set $1 million bail each for two suspects accused of kidnapping and torturing an Italian bitcoin millionaire to obtain his cryptocurrency password.
- On Wednesday, Justice Gregory Carro set bail at $1 million each and ordered home confinement, citing the torture allegations.
- Abducted on May 6, 2025, the victim was held for nearly three weeks inside a five-story SoHo townhouse.
- They drugged him, beat him with a gun and shocked him with electric wires, prosecutors allege, while also pistol-whipping, setting him on fire, head butting and waterboarding.
- Bondsman Ira Judelson will handle their release and monitoring, and Justice Gregory Carro barred cryptocurrency payments, with both men required to wear ankle monitors.
- Duplessie and Woeltz are due back in court on October 15, 2025, and if convicted of kidnapping, they could face life imprisonment.
