Royal Navy serviceman accused of spying for foreign power
Teddy Young, 24, is accused of obtaining and preparing to disclose protected information in a case police say involves an unnamed foreign power.
On Thursday, Royal Navy member Teddy Young, 24, was charged with two offences under the National Security Act for allegedly obtaining and preparing to disclose protected information to benefit a foreign power.
Prosecutors allege Young committed these offences between November 26, 2024, and May 21, 2025, during which he obtained, copied, and retained protected information intending to benefit an unnamed foreign power prejudicial to United Kingdom interests.
Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said, "These are very serious charges against a serving member of the armed forces." Detectives worked with the Ministry of Defence to ensure risks were mitigated.
The Metropolitan Police stated the charges are unconnected to the ongoing investigation into a suspected terror plot at RAF Fairford, emphasizing that further speculation must be avoided to protect the justice process.
Following his arrest at his Bedfordshire home on Tuesday, Young remains in police custody pending his appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court, where legal proceedings will determine the case outcome.
