UGA Grad Identified As ROTC Instructor Killed In VA College Shooting
Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, an ROTC instructor with over 600 combat flight hours and two Bronze Stars, was killed; two others injured and classes canceled following the shooting.
- On Thursday, Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, an ROTC instructor and professor of military science, was killed in a classroom at Old Dominion University.
- Shah enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2003 and served as a helicopter pilot in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Eastern Europe, earning several awards, including two Bronze Stars.
- Two other people were injured, with one hospitalized in critical condition and the other treated and released, and classes were canceled on Friday before the spring break starting Monday.
- Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger paid tribute to Lt. Col. Brandon Shah, saying 'A devoted ROTC instructor, Lt. Shah didn't just lead a life of service to our country, he taught and led others to follow that path', as the university said the community was 'devastated' and Shah was 'dearly loved'.
- Having returned to lead the ROTC program in 2022, Shah maintained deep ties to Old Dominion and held multiple degrees, including an MS in Engineering Management, according to colleagues.
