Omar Elkhatib 400 metre champion in Taranto'2026
"The Portuguese national anthem" was played twice more today at the Giuseppe Valente Stadium, because José Carlos Pinto, in the 5,000 meters, and Omar Elkhatib, in the 400 meters with a Mediterranean record, were crowned champions at Taranto 2026.
The Portuguese athlete, born in São Tomé and Príncipe and trained at the Oliveira do Bairro Athletics Club, succeeds João Coelho at the Mediterranean Games
Omar Elkhatib succeeded compatriot João Coelho in the 400-metre title.
The day began with rower Inês Oliveira winning the bronze medal in the lightweight single scull, ending with a total of 29 medals for the Portuguese Mission present in Taranto 22026.
