Transfers: Charles Joins Fulham in £30m Deal
Fulham have beaten several Premier League rivals for the 22-year-old midfielder, whose £26 million deal could rise to £30 million with add-ons.
On Monday, Premier League club Fulham scheduled a medical for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles ahead of a transfer deal worth up to £30 million, including an upfront fee of £26m.
Fulham targeted the 22-year-old to replace Sasa Lukic, who joined Ipswich Town last week, after Southampton rejected multiple offers from Leeds United earlier this summer.
New Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa secured the midfielder following his appointment earlier this summer, having previously signed striker Gonzalo Garcia and midfielder Cesar Palacios from Real Madrid.
Charles will sign a five-year contract, becoming the most expensive Northern Irish footballer of all time, having developed at Manchester City before his time at Southampton and Hillsborough.
The Cottagers face German club Stuttgart on Saturday, August 15, before their Premier League opener against Chelsea on Monday, August 24, following Charles's farewell appearance against Colchester United.
