Media mogul due to face court on assault charges
The media executive is accused of assault, false imprisonment and threats to kill after police said his wife was hospitalized with a fractured tailbone.
On Monday, media executive Antony Catalano appeared via videolink at Melbourne Magistrates Court facing charges of assault, false imprisonment, and making threats to kill stemming from a March 13 incident.
Police allege Catalano dragged his wife, Stefanie Catalano, by her hair and ankles through their apartment and threatened to stab her while in a drug-affected state, leaving her hospitalised with a fractured tailbone.
Defence barrister Tony Hargreaves argued for the remote appearance, citing "intense media attention" and stating it would be "potentially detrimental to his mental health" after Catalano recently completed four weeks in rehabilitation.
Magistrate Nahrain Warda granted the videolink request, adjourning the case until June 2 while Catalano has yet to enter a plea to the serious criminal charges.
Following a staff vote of no-confidence, Catalano remains on indefinite leave of absence from Australian Community Media, the country's largest regional and rural digital media company.
