- Alberta's population has increased by more than 600,000 over the past five years, straining public services and creating rapid growth pressures that Smith said require background infrastructure before builders can construct new homes.
- Alberta will contribute up to $428 million to cover at least one-third of eligible costs, Carney said, with the agreement allocating at least $100 million specifically for rural and Indigenous community projects.
- Under this agreement, Alberta will lead in identifying and prioritizing projects based on regional needs, with the initiative aiming to support and build 25,000 additional affordable homes by 2031.
- Initial project submissions representing at least $25 million in federal contributions are due by Nov. 30, 2026, while all remaining infrastructure projects must be submitted by March 31, 2030.
