Health Officials Report First Measles Case in Idaho Panhandle Since 1991

- The measles virus can linger in the air for two hours after an infected person leaves, PHD says, and 13% of cases have led to hospitalizations, most among children.
- PHD says it is working to identify how the individual contracted measles and contacting locations visited while infectious, and will monitor until no new cases occur for at least 21 days.
- Nationwide, there have been 1,356 confirmed measles cases this year, reported in 41 jurisdictions including Washington, Montana, Oregon and Wyoming, with most cases in unvaccinated individuals.
