‘I Hope It’s Against Us’: Mini Wants Pendlebury Game
McRae says Collingwood has a deliberate plan for Pendlebury’s workload as the veteran nears the VFL/AFL games record.
On Saturday, Collingwood veteran Scott Pendlebury will equal Brent Harvey's VFL/AFL record of 432 games during the Magpies' clash with Geelong at the MCG.
Collingwood coach Craig McRae implemented a deliberate rest plan because Pendlebury has not played many five-day breaks historically, noting the veteran was not in a position to play physically last week.
Addressing reports labeling the plan selfish, McRae defended the veteran, stating, "I would have thought Pendles is probably the least selfish person in our team."
To honor the "living legend," the club plans to celebrate his career within their building, with Pendlebury expected to wear a gold number on his jumper to mark the occasion.
The 38-year-old is set to break the North Melbourne champion's 10-year-old record against West Coast in round 11, a milestone McRae insists deserves all the attention it receives.
