The first slalom run at the Olympic Games in the men's competition was marked by numerous withdrawals due to heavy snowfall and poor visibility. The best after the first run was Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath with the first starting number. Second was Swiss Loic Meillard, and third was Austrian Fabio Gstrein. There were no Slovenians at the start.
