Michael McClain Gets 24-Month Sentence in ComEd Four Bribery Case Linked to Mike Madigan
COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, JUL 24 – Michael McClain was sentenced for his role in a bribery scheme where ComEd paid over $1.3 million to associates expecting political favors in Springfield, officials said.
- Michael McClain, 77, was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday at the Everett McKinley Dirksen U.S. Courthouse in Chicago.
- Earlier convictions emerged from Michael McClain’s bribery conviction traced to the ComEd Four scheme, as the FBI raided his home in Quincy six years ago.
- Prosecutors said `Earlier this month` that Michael McClain's `tight connection` with former speaker Michael Madigan led him to make demand after demand of ComEd, demonstrating influence peddling, prosecutors said.
- Judge Manish Shah warned, `you preferred secrecy and lies. The consequences are yours to bear.` when sentencing Michael McClain to two years in prison, scheduled for Oct. 30 in Springfield or Rochester.
- Madigan and other co-defendants have also received sentences in the ComEd Four case, with Doherty scheduled for Aug. 5.
