Mbappe Dismisses Injury Fears After Quarter-Final Victory

Mbappé scored his eighth World Cup goal and added an assist before leaving with a minor right-ankle injury, coach Didier Deschamps said.

  • France defeated Morocco 2-0 to reach the World Cup semifinals, with Kylian Mbappé scoring his eighth goal of the tournament. The victory secures France's third consecutive semifinal appearance.
  • After missing a 28th-minute penalty kick saved by Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, Mbappé redeemed himself by scoring in the 60th minute. He assisted Ousmane Dembélé six minutes later to extend the lead.
  • Mbappé signaled for help in the 77th minute after an earlier collision with Issa Diop in the 63rd minute. He left the game and watched the final minutes from the bench with an ice pack on his ankle.
  • Addressing his condition, Mbappé stated, "I took a knock to the ankle, but I'm fine." He was replaced by Jean-Philippe Mateta and showed no ill effects while celebrating with teammates.
  • France awaits a semifinal matchup against either Spain or Belgium. Mbappé has scored his 20th goal in 20 World Cup games, equaling Argentina captain Lionel Messi for the tournament lead.
