OKC Mayor David Holt Unveils New Arena Renderings During His State of the City Address
OKLAHOMA COUNTY, OKLAHOMA, JUL 16 – The $1 billion arena will be funded by a one-cent sales tax and contributions from MAPS 4 and Thunder owners, with construction starting in 2026 and opening in 2028.
- At his Wednesday State of the City address, Holt revealed the renderings, joined by architect David Manica who walked the crowd through the early conceptual design for the $900 million venue.
- The project is funded by a 72-month one-cent sales tax, MAPS 4, and Thunder ownership contributions, ensuring a 25-year commitment.
- Design renderings show the arena as a vessel, built by a Mortenson/Flintco joint venture with an elevated walkable exterior loop and David Manica said, 'the arena’s key features.'
- In remarks following the unveiling, Holt added `This will be a building that will define our city`, and Paycom Center will drop its naming rights agreement by 2028.
- Looking ahead, site clearing is expected later this year, with construction set to start in 2026 and opening scheduled for the Thunder’s 2028-29 season.
