The Eastern Railway Station will be closed for a month from August 25. Zsolt Hegyi, CEO of MÁV, said that 4.5 billion forints will be spent on the renovation. During the renovation, critical elements of the railway infrastructure will be replaced, making the station safer.
Due to renovation works, Keleti Railway Station services will use alternative terminals between August 25 and September 20. Both MÁV and the traveling public are facing a difficult period.
The renovation of the Keleti railway station could be a turning point and the beginning of a new chapter in Hungarian rail transport, said Zsolt Hegyi at a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon. The CEO of MÁV pointed out that the closure of such a busy railway station could not come at a good time, but they saw the end of summer and the beginning of autumn as the period when they could perhaps do it with the least passenger inconvenience.
The track network is being renovated, so the station will soon be closed for several weeks.
