U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Greenlights Louisiana International Terminal on Lower Mississippi River
Port NOLA says the project will add thousands of jobs and billions in tax revenue as it moves into construction.
- On Monday, the Army Corps granted a federal permit authorizing construction of the Louisiana International Terminal in Violet on the Lower Mississippi River.
- The Louisiana International Terminal aims to modernize port traffic because ships have outgrown current infrastructure, carrying more than 16,000 containers and unable to pass under the Crescent City Connection.
- Port NOLA cargo activity currently supports more than $101 billion in economic value and over 122,000 jobs in Louisiana, while the terminal will connect more than 30 states to global markets.
- Backed by Port NOLA, Terminal Investment Limited, and Ports America, the project has faced local opposition from residents in Bernard Parish expressing concerns about increased traffic and quality of life impacts.
- Gov. Jeff Landry stated, "This is a defining moment not just for Louisiana, but for the entire country," as the project aims to strengthen American supply chains and accelerate manufacturing.
