Caused by ongoing soil shifts and landslides, the sinkhole has destroyed crops, mainly coffee, chili and sugar canes, and prompted safety measures in the surrounding areas. The sinkhole is also threatening an electricity pylon according to local authorities.
In the Indonesian province of Central Aceh, several fields are on the move, but the huge hole in the earth is constantly getting bigger. The case is reminiscent of the municipality of Niscemi in Sicily, where a large part of the high plateau on which the place stands had slipped at the beginning of the year.
