Massive Attack, Brian Eno Among UK and Irish Musicians Banding Together to Speak Out on Israel’s War in Gaza
UNITED KINGDOM AND IRELAND, JUL 18 – The alliance aims to protect artists from censorship, gig cancellations, and legal threats driven by UK Lawyers for Israel amid rising industry intimidation, with support from major musicians.
- A syndicate of musicians from the UK and Ireland, including Massive Attack, Brian Eno, Fontaines D.C., and Kneecap, formed to support artists speaking out against Israel's war in Gaza and governmental funding roles.
- This alliance emerged after UK Lawyers for Israel reported artists like Kneecap and Bob Vylan to police, leading to terrorism charges, police investigations, and event cancellations following pro-Palestinian performances.
- The syndicate is urging an immediate halt to hostilities, unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza, a cessation of British weapon exports to Israel, and an end to attacks on healthcare and aid personnel, emphasizing these demands in connection with a recent documentary highlighting UKLFI’s actions.
- Paloma Faith publicly supported Kneecap’s post on Instagram, encouraging artists to “Keep going everyone it’s going to eventually change!” while emphasizing protection for vulnerable artists facing censorship threats.
- Despite Avon and Somerset Police dropping the investigation into Kneecap for insufficient evidence, UK counterterrorism police still investigate Bob Vylan, and both have faced gig cancellations amid ongoing disputes between artists and UKLFI.
