Fifty years ago, a massacre took place in the Palestinian refugee camp of Tel al-Zaatar, located in central Lebanon, north of Beirut. During the Lebanese Civil War, which began in 1975, Christian militias besieged the camp and, with the help of Syrian forces, decimated it. The destruction of Tel al-Zaatar completed the division of Lebanon: the south was controlled by Muslims, the north by Christians.
