Massachusetts Trio Arrested After Chase, Lewiston Police Cruiser Rammed
Police said the stolen truck totaled a cruiser and injured one officer before all three occupants were arrested.
On Friday, May 22, a dump truck stolen from Marlborough, Massachusetts at 7:25 a.m. was spotted by Lewiston police using Flock Safety cameras just before 8 p.m. near Bartlett and Walnut streets.
The Ford dual-wheel dump truck had been stolen earlier that morning from Marlborough, and police believed the three Massachusetts residents were in Lewiston to continue a crime spree begun in their home state.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle in a parking lot, driver Antonio Moralespijoan, 23, of Marlborough realized he had nowhere to go and intentionally rammed a police cruiser, then fled down Howe Street to Longley School where the truck crashed into a playground fence.
One officer pursuing the suspects sustained a large cut to his head from the mangled fence requiring seven staples at St. Marys Regional Medical Center, while the cruiser driver escaped injury and all three occupants were arrested.
Moralespijoan faces six charges including reckless conduct and aggravated criminal mischief, while passengers Angelika Almeida, 20, of Lawrence and Steven Grossi, 37, of Lowell face theft and possession charges, with Grossi also charged with refusing to submit to arrest.
