Maryland Man Charged With Plotting to Kill OMB Director Vought
Colin Demarco faces multiple felony charges after allegedly targeting OMB director Russ Vought due to political grievances tied to Project 2025, officials said.
- On January 22, Colin Demarco, 26-year-old Rockville, Maryland man, was arrested and charged with attempted murder in an alleged plot targeting Russell Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, in Arlington, Virginia.
- Investigators say Demarco was motivated by opposition to Project 2025, feared President Donald Trump's reelection would lead to a `fascist takeover`, and admitted creating a manifesto planning to kill people.
- Security footage shows Demarco on Aug. 10 wearing gloves, a surgical mask and sunglasses at Vought's home while checking the mailbox, a neighbor said he appeared armed, and digital records include weapons research and a Body Disposal Guide.
- The U.S. Marshals Service led the investigation and now protects Director Vought, while Demarco is held without bond at Arlington County Detention Facility and will appear in court on Feb. 23.
- Officials say senior administration figures routinely receive credible threats, with Vought targeted since last year for leading mass firings and architecting Schedule F, while Arlington County prosecutors filed charges despite a U.S. Marshals Service investigation.
