Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy announced that the government may postpone the excise tax increase planned for January 2026 by six months. The minister detailed the government's economic policy plans at the 63rd Economists' Traveling Assembly and in the subsequent interview, Index wrote.
The government's big invention this year was the inflation-tracking tax increase, Márton Nagy told Index that they would rather postpone it, officially as part of the industrial and occupational safety action plan. It is not clear whether the measure also applies to alcohol and tobacco products.
