World Snooker Championship Quarters: Zhao Trails, Wu to Take on Trump Conqueror
Selby blamed horrific table conditions and his own play after Wu held his nerve to reach the last eight.
On Monday, 22-year-old Chinese rising star Wu Yize defeated four-time world champion Mark Selby 13-11 at the Crucible, securing a spot in the World Snooker Championship quarter-finals.
Selby, 42, branded his performance "pathetic" and criticized the "horrific" state of the Crucible table, calling conditions the worst he has experienced at the World Championship.
Selby struck the table with his cue after missing a straightforward red, describing the surface as "heavy and pingy" throughout the match.
A World Snooker Tour spokesperson responded, "There are always challenges in providing the best possible conditions," noting that dedicated fitters constantly monitor the tables.
Wu faces either Judd Trump or Hossein Vafaei next, with Selby calling his opponent a "world champion in the making" despite the closely contested match.
